When seemingly intractable differences evolve in a relationship or a family, it is the mature duty of the husband to fix it. A broken thing needs fixing and like the house, the car, the fence, your bike or boat, relationships need fixing from time to time.
The tools in your kit are love, compassion, understanding, forgiveness, effective communication and listening and desire to do the right thing. Learning to use these tools well requires skill and practice. It is called husbandry, the art of caring for things, and it is the job of every spouse. When we cannot fix things, maybe its because we have misplaced one of these tools and need to find it again or that we need more practice.
I am happy to report that there is a growing resolution to the issue that plagued me because I found a few tools that I had misplaced.
