Democracy in Pakistan? Big Red Button!

November 6, 2007 / by quarksandgenes

There is a Big Red Button controlling a city killing bomb collection up for grabs in a Pakistan Democracy. Who will control it? That is the only question that matters to the world.

The Islamist militants know that chaos is the fuel that runs their bulldozers of destruction.

These militants have one political agenda. They want a theocratic dictatorship over everyone and they want to call all the shots for everyone. In a plural multi-culture, this is clearly unacceptable. They use anarchy to gain control and as long as they do, must be treated as the gangsters they are. We in the west have a strong vested interest in a peaceful Pakistan and a free Pakistan under the rule of law. If violence spirals out of control there, radicals can take advantage of the situation and potentially gain control of the nation and the nuclear arms and then we are all in for a very rough ride. We must support stability recognizing its special vulnerability and strategic position and potential global danger and help Pakistan achieve its constitutional goals. My suggestions are that gun control laws not unlike those in Canada be implemented and strongly enforced throughout the entire nation and all political parties be required to be secular.

The world cannot under any circumstances allow the suicide bombers of Pakistan to rise to power as they would in a weak democracy and get their hands on them. There must be iron-clad tamper proof mechanisms in place to prevent that from ever happening backed by contingency plans by NATO if it ever does happen.

Whom ever runs the country will have a tough job balancing the various opposing factions because of the violent self righteous medieval tribalism that still controls the back country.

It is my unwavering belief that the million or more Islamists of Pakistan who support and shelter Bin Laden are not yet desirable candidates for democratic representatives nor custodianship of nuclear weapons and must do an enormous amount of personal evolution before being granted such an honor along with its attendant responsibilities and the duty of tolerance and respect for other cultures. Until they are, Pakistan must be watched very closely regarding who has their hand on the big red button.

RECAPPING: The world cannot under any circumstances allow the suicide bombers of Pakistan to rise to power and get their hands on the Big Red Button. Be careful what you wish for my friends. Is a suicidal maniacal theocratic islamist democracy really better than a stable pro-western dictatorship if it gives the Red Button to lunatics? Let us not forget so quickly that 'democratization' of Iraq let the Shia-Sunni boogey Men out of the bag. Also see my article, 'Islam a Dictatorship'.
